Induction Training Programme

Childminding, like any other occupation, requires a clear induction to the role and responsibilities involved.  SCMA has developed a programme to help potential childminders understand what is required in establishing a home-based childcare and education service.

OVERVIEW

This programme is suitable for those who are considering or progressing with registration and will support preparation for this new career.

OUTLINE:

This training programme was reviewed and revised in line with the demands of the Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001 and the Early Education and Childcare Standards and reflects the fact that potential childminders must be more informed than ever before.  The programme was designed to help potential childminders make an informed decision about becoming a childminder, and also to help them complete the Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care (Care Commission) application process.

The programme is delivered in a series of six sessions. The sessions are interactive and adopt a group discussion format.  The training is supported by a series of informative handouts that provide support throughout the early stages of childminding.  Where possible, this programme runs in conjunction with Care Commission representation which has been agreed nationally. A Certificate of Attendance is awarded to those who complete the programme.
